The Z850 is a versatile, high performance, ergonomically designed stereo zoom microscope ruggedly built to withstand years of heavy usage. With a zoom ratio of 6.3:1 the Z850 provides superior optical performance at an affordable price.

Key features include:

Microscope viewing heads

All microscope viewing heads (binocular or trinocular) can accept eyepieces and objectives. Generally speaking, eyepieces establish the magnification range and objective establish the resolution and working distance of the microscope. (The objective also affects the magnification range, but it's easier to consider this separately.)

Eyepieces

Eyepiece selection is required and 10x is considered standard. The base magnification range of the viewing head is 0.8-5x and the 10x objectives increases this range to 8-50x. (The 20x eyepieces will increase the magnification range to 16-100x.)

Objectives

Z850 microscope heads do not require separate objectives and the native design provides 1.0x magnification at a working distance of 115 mm. Auxiliary objectives of 0.5x, 0.7x, and 2.0x are available, with the 2.0x objective providing the greatest increase in resolving power at the expense of of a shorter working distance of 43 mm.

The 2.0x objective doubles the microscope's resolution by reducing the area of the visual field. While providing greater resolution, this reduced visual field has the side effect of increasing the magnification since a smaller visual field can look like a zoom. However, the resolving power (ie, the detail you can see) will be greater with a 2.0x objective at 1x zoom over a 1.0x objective at 2x zoom) .

    Additional eyepieces of 15x and 20x are available.
  • Viewing heads sold separately require the purchase of eyepieces.
  • All viewing heads are 1.0x objective native.
    Optional 0.5x, 0.7x and 2.0x objectives are available.
